Crisis Management/Problem solving skills: Interim CFO of public company. Engaged at end of accounting year after staff cuts, CFO and Controller had resigned, leaving only one junior accounting clerk. Filed timely SEC 10-K, managed audit and tax issues, implemented new accounting pronouncements, improved accuracy and time to close, wrote press releases.
Strategic analysis eliminated $10-$15 million in potential equity needs. Developed strategy which allowed for planned achievement of IPO goals while simultaneously reducing cumulative cash burn significantly. Analyzed multiple risk factors and operational metrics decision tree to monitor and mitigate risks.
Managed high growth; developed policy, controls & systems to grow technology manufacturing firm from $36M to $150M, from 400 to 1,000+ employees and from one to six manufacturing plants nationwide in 3 years, with final merger sales $400M; led internet firm to “next” level, growing from $1M/year to $20M/quarter.
Managed $265M merger of company with principal competitor, requiring $300M for recapitalization.
Resolved banking issues: Interim CFO to private technology manufacturer during recession, sales falling 40%. Effectively resolved client issues with banking relationship. Company was out of covenant, needed to increase borrowing line. Provided roadmap to CEO and negotiated with bank. Outcome: 25% increase in borrowing, resolved covenant issues with new definitions, lowered P&I repayment obligations. Assisted in managing financial and strategic issues during downturn.
SEC Issues: Company revenue recognition rejected by SEC but was actually conservative and correct. Arranged multiple meetings with SEC decisionmakers. Presented to Chief Accountant of the SEC in Washington D.C. Outcome: SEC reversed course and allowed revenue recognition, effectively establishing a new industry approach.
